My Story

A Simple Acknowledgement

Let me justsay, I wasraised in the church, feltcomfort being there and often took the
sense of warmth and belonging for granted until one day. . .

Alady came up to me one Sunday and said a simple,“THANK YOU.”
Iturned and frowned slightly asking her,“WHY?” She responded,“My family and I are new here and I didn’t wantto come back, but each Sunday I justlooked for you, knowing thatif Iran into you, you would say,HI.” I don’t know how many times her wordsreturn to my mind,“you would sayHI.” Each of us need thatsimple acknowledgementthat we indeed exist and that we matter,to someone. Let that sink into your heart and mind, all you need to say to change
someone’s day, is“HI”

Tomorrow is a NEW DAY

My days are filled with little people who are figuring out who they are and where they belong. One particular yearI had a curly haired, sullen boy enter my room. He ragged hisfeetslowly through my classroom doorthatfirst day. Hisshoulders drooped in defeat and a slightscowl was permanently etched across hisforehead.

It was notlong into the firstcouple weeks, frustration and anxiety hit! Tempers flared and angry wordsspewed from his mouth. His eyesflashed with challenging engagement and fury.

Thischild is my heart. Thischild needsto know Isee him. Thischild needsto know I will listen. And after all is said  and done, thischild needsto know tomorrow is a new day, all isforgotten and we all getto start again.

Slowly through the yearIsaw brilliance and confidence grow. Isaw thischild enter my classroom with shoulders back and eyesshining with hope. Isaw him reach out to others and share history and . . . just listen. . . because tomorrow is a new day.
